Path to Balance

The debt limit must not be raised until Washington fixes its spending problem.

Real spending cuts now.
No tax hikes.
Real entitlement reforms.
No budget gimmicks.
Only these policies will fix the spending problem that is the cause of our runaway debt. Any increase in the national debt limit must be accompanied by a ten-year path to balance.

Americans joined the Path to Balance!
  • Balance the federal budget within ten years at no more than 18.5% of GDP with real reforms and immediate spending cuts.
  • Congress should look for spending cuts throughout the budget. Entitlements such as Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid must be reformed. Discretionary spending must be cut, reversing the recent explosion.
  • Taxes should remain at their historical average, 18.5% of GDP. President Obama has already increased taxes on almost every American.
  • No default. President Obama invoked the specter of default and threatens to withhold funds from important programs if he doesn't get his way. Congress should reiterate that the administration can and must prioritize servicing our debt, ensuring the federal government does not default.
